Frequently asked questions

  • Animations have a number of advantages over live videos:

There is no need for a presenter.
This means the learner can focus fully on the material (not the person speaking), and if you ever want to add more material or update old videos, you don’t have to worry about whether or not your main character is available if he or she is an illustration!

    You can draw ANYTHING!
We can illustrate things that don’t exist in real life (perhaps a mythical creature will lead the discussion), things that cannot be easily seen (like plant cells or intricate medical procedures), or elements of production that would otherwise mean shutting down operations to film. If you are still set on filming, consider a hybrid animation-live video combination–animated elements can be added over real footage to highlight important points or add more interest, or consider animating sequences that are difficult to show with video footage.

    Animation is intentional.
Studies show that irrelevant information can distract the learner from focusing on the target lesson. When creating an animation, every single element is planned, so it is easy to weed out anything that isn’t necessary (which could be impossible when filming on location or with actors).

Animations can be updated and translated with ease.
Have you changed your curriculum? No problem! We can easily update animations to fit your evolving needs. Redesigned your logo or changed your brand colors? That’s easy to change too! Thinking of expanding into the Swedish market? All you need is a new voice over and you’re good to go! No need to re-film your course with new actors.

  • In the digital era, our attention spans have become more limited. This has sparked concepts like ‘microlearning,’ which keeps lessons short and focused on the target information, building up knowledge in small bursts (rather than longer sessions), as this is more suited to how we are used to taking in information today.

Animation is ideal for microlearning because a lot of complex concepts can be packed into a short video that shows the learner the material (rather than trying to explain it). Don’t let duration deceive you–short and concise is much more effective than longwinded and wordy.

  • The cost for an animation depends on a variety of factors, and there are options for a variety of budgets.

The real advantage with animations is that you only need to buy them once–whereas a live teacher or presenter needs to be paid every time. And animations can vary in their complexity which impacts the bottom line, so consider a simplified style if your budget is tighter. And remember that animations are scalable and easily modified at any time, so one video will take you far.

As for production time, 2D animation is much quicker in the digital era than in the old days. Modern techniques mean we can have an animation in about the same timeframe as a regular video–especially when you account for all of the added logistics that go into filming. There’s no need to coordinate schedules, find an available crew, or book a studio or location, which makes things more cost effective and a whole lot easier for you.

  • Of course you can! In fact, it is becoming more and more common to use animated content in the brick-and-mortar classroom as a learning tool because animated videos can really emphasize important points and get students to integrate them into long-term memory. Adding animated videos to your curriculum can really activate your students, which translates into engagement IRL.

  • Just like any classroom, you will still need to make sure the students are watching–but with animation, it’s easy! Add interactive elements, a message board, or digital quizzes to your lessons to really ensure your learners are actively engaged.

  • Animation is for everybody, and in our virtual world, there is absolutely no reason to skip out on this incredible tool just because we used to watch cartoons. Animation is often the ideal way to teach complex procedures and concepts, especially those that cannot be easily filmed (like biological processes or engineering procedures). Additionally, 2D illustrations and graphics can be drawn in an infinite variety of styles–from playful and cute to clean and professional–so you can find a style that fits your needs perfectly–even one that presents your lesson in a serious light.
